Steve Mason and I greatly appreciate the team’s donation of time, resources and dedication in making this trip such a resounding success. We had set some lofty goals in January 2019 when we toured the sites and met with our new partners in Hue and Da Nang. I feel grateful and blessed that we had the team that we did that allowed us to achieve the goals we set. …View » divider

MOA recently completed the Fall surgical mission to Amatitlan, Guatemala where we provided Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery services to the underserved citizens of Amatitlan. While we were very productive, we were not able to complete as many surgeries as planned or hoped for. We had 17 team members accompany us …View » divider

Our very small team traveled to Amatitlan on February 22nd to treat a young man who had been evaluated during our September 2018 mission with a large Giant Cell Tumor involving the majority of his proximal femur. We had attempted to travel to Amatitlan in November to perform a resection, but one of our essential team members required emergency surgery which led to a postponement. …View » divider

I trust by now that everyone has returned to the everyday grind that is life in the US. Many thanks and congratulations for a job well done in Amatitlan! You guys were amazing and I am always totally amazed by the diversity of the teams but how their is always the common denominator of wanting to help the people of Guatemala! You leave there feeling like you leaving family behind; you can tell your friends and family about your experience, but they can’t possibly comprehend it. …View » divider

MOA returned from a most productive and rewarding mission that ran from March 4 thru March 11. Our team of 23 was the largest yet and we had nine members who were either on their first mission with MOA or their first mission ever and it was a delight having them join us! I am repeatedly honored to have team members return time after time to work with MOA in Guatemala! …View » divider

Medical Outreach of America recently completed our Fall Surgical mission in Amatitlan, Guatemala, which was once again, highly successful.  We completed 42 surgical procedures (19 orthopedic, 15 GYN and 8 plastic surgery).  Our primary obstacle to completing more cases was our lack of anesthesia services after the standard work day.  Two of our team members (an Anesthesiologist and an Orthopedic Surgeon) were forced to cancel due to the devastation in the Caribbean caused by the back to back hurricanes that ravaged so many of the islands.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and their families. …View » divider

Come join us as we return to Amatitlan, Guatemala to continue our efforts to improve the lives and the hospital conditons in Amatitlan.  Guatemala is rich in history and tradition and the people are warm and inviting; it is the only Central American country where the indigenous population is in the majority;…View » divider

Steve Mason and I just recently returned from Hanoi after spending a week visiting several of the more impoverished areas of north and central Vietnam. After surveying these areas we have begun the rather tortuous process of obtaining permission from the Vietnamese government to allow us to bring a Medical/Dental team during early November (Current proposal is November 6-15). As a mission trip to Asia requires a greater time commitment;…View » divider

Guatemala (Completed)

October 24 – October 30, 2015

Our October 2015 Surgical Mission has been concluded and it was yet another undeniable success!  This mission was a bit of an anomaly as we focused on only orthopedics.  While there, we not only did Amatitlan’s first Total Hip Replacement, but also their first arthroscopy.  Our ability to perform arthroscopic procedures in Amatitlan was primarily the result of the extremely kind and generous grant that Storz made to MOA!…View » divider

Guatemala (Completed)

March 2015

Medical Outreach of America just completed it’s second surgical mission to Amatitlan, Guatemala which was an incredible success! We performed 57 major surgeries in three days, as well as providing non-surgical care to dozens of other patients between cases. Many of the surgeries were extremely complicated because of the advanced nature of the disease process; because of the lack of availability of healthcare, patients generally don’t present for surgical treatment until their conditions have progressed to the point that their lives are in danger …View » divider

Guatemala (Completed)

October 2014

Our team just recently returned from a surgical mission to Amatitlan, Guatemala. Initially, it looked like we might have to abort the mission as the doctors were striking at the Escuintla hospital where we have worked in the past. Only two days before our departure, our coordinator in Guatemala (Ms. Evelyn Paiz) was able to arrange for us to work in the town of Amatitlan. Their hospital suffers from many of the same problems that are seen elsewhere; many patients but very few supplies or equipment…View » divider

March 2014

Our MOA team just recently completed it’s second surgical mission to Escuintla, Guatemala which was very successful! What a great team!! I was continually amazed by their clinical skills, motivation, dedication and compassion. They were never too tired or burdened to do one more case or see one more patient, regardless of the lateness of the day or level of fatigue they were experiencing…View » divider

Bhutan (Completed)

November 2013

Ten MOA team members spent 12 days in a remote region of South Eastern Bhutan at two medical clinics. This wonderful country was filled with vast landscapes and a warm and rich culture. The village of Buli provided meals and home stays for the team along with nightly cultural dancing around a campfire. We saw almost 900 local Bhutanese and returned home tired, happy and full of memories from the Land of the Thunder Dragon…View » divider

MOA took a small team to the Himalayas to provide medical care to the Sherpas (and their families) who assist the many efforts to summit Mt. Everest each year.
