Steve Mason and I just recently returned from Hanoi after spending a week visiting several of the more impoverished areas of north and central Vietnam. After surveying these areas we have begun the rather tortuous process of obtaining permission from the Vietnamese government to allow us to bring a Medical/Dental team during early November (Current proposal is November 6-15). Our October 2015 Surgical Mission has been concluded and it was yet another undeniable success! This mission was a bit of an anomaly as we focused on only orthopedics. While there, we not only did Amatitlan’s first Total Hip Replacement, but also their first arthroscopy. Medical Outreach of America just completed it’s second surgical mission to Amatitlan, Guatemala which was an incredible success! We performed 57 major surgeries in three days, as well as providing non-surgical care to dozens of other patients between cases.
