Mission Completed…
Mount Everest Medical Clinic
October 6-18 2012
MOA took a small team to the Himalayas to provide medical care to the Sherpas (and their families) who assist the many efforts to summit Mt. Everest each year. Although healthcare was delivered where-ever the need was evident, the primary clinic was held in Namche Bazaar at the Community Namche Area Health Post. From Namche Bazaar, the team continued to Everest Base Camp, (17,600 ft) providing medical care to the Sherpa communities along the way. This mission represented one of the more physically demanding missions, but also one of the more rewarding . The Sherpa people, with their legendary strength and endurance are most hospitable and truly delightful to care for. The mission began and ended with a flight into and out of the Hilary-Tenzing Airport in Lukla, aptly labeled “the most dangerous airport in the world”. It is situated at an elevation of 9,400 ft with a mountain at one end, a shear drop off at the other, a 12% grade and is only 1500 ft long. We are looking for hardy team members for our next mission to Everest Base camp. If interested, please contact Dr. Ed Atwell.
